The struggle to disrupt hegemonic meaning: practices of micro-resistance in the consultancy sector

The aim of this paper is to explore the mechanisms of resistance developed by consultants specializing in personnel selection in the face of those technologies of subjectivation aimed at shaping normalized subjectivities aligned with the paradigm of entrepreneurship. A relevant feature of the profound changes taking place in the world of work is linked to the resignification of the normative ideal of the “good worker” and the normative and referential displacement of the traditional employee. The sector studied, human resources consultancy, constitutes a particularly suggestive and appropriate space for observing these transformations and, above all, how the new forms of governance and the resistance articulated by workers operate. Through a detailed autoethnographic approach, we have identified some of the axes that underpin these processes of resistance and the mechanisms that attempt to confront the dominant frameworks of meaning within the organization.
