Abstract

Assessing the influence of COVID-19 on violence against women is a topic of current international research. Some countries such as Spain require special interest due to the particularities of the measures established in response to the pandemic. This paper analyzes the evolution of calls to 016 as an indicator of tensions and violence against women. Annual and monthly data from 2008 to 2021 are used, on which different methodologies such as t-test, regression analysis and Interrupted Time-Series Analysis are applied. The results of this work indicate that in Spain there was in general terms an increase in telephone calls to 016 since the arrival of COVID-19. However, there is a great variability in calls according to the social situation in terms of restrictive measures, which makes it difficult to attribute this increase to a short-term effect or change in trend.
