The aim of this study is to investígate the changing juridical and social aspects of adoption fi-om ancient to modem times. More in detail, we present the main results of investigations carried out in Spain conceming this particular means for the protection of minors. Finally, we bring together some of the statistical information published by official organisms responsible for the care of the young with regard to the formalities of adoption now in forcé in each autonomous community.
