Abstract

The article analyzes how Spanish disadvantaged young people politicize the complex reality in which their everyday lives take place, and how, in some occasions, they succeed in becoming political actors through their mutual implication in collective mobilizations. These processes allow them to overcome the effect of those disadvantages that hinder to a great degree their transitions to adulthood. The results of a qualitative research carried out between 2009 and 2011 with disadvantaged young people from Madrid and Andalusia show the complex paths of their politicization processes. The social frustration and civic helplessness caused by complicated conditions of their transitions affect their relationships with the collectivity but do not prevent the construction of different political discourses, nor the experiences of collective commitment.
