Evaluation has achieved a important role at Spanish Universities, since the National Plan for Evaluation and Quality of Universities (PNECU) was passed in 1995 in Spain. In this paper we make an examination of the evaluation processes in place at Spanish Universities, using a qualitative methodology for the analysis of the information given by the same agency in charge of evaluation at each University. After that, we perform a metaanalysis of the qualitative codes found in the early stage of the research process, using quantitative techniques such as correspondence analysis and multidimensional scaling. The findings confirm that we can not speak about one evaluation model, but there is a huge variety of evaluation models, because of the diversity in the organizational structure of the Spanish Universities. On the other hand, institutional support is one of the key variables in order to understand the evaluation model in place, and the extent to which there is a feedback at the University’ management.
