Abstract

The incorporation of digital and algorithmic technology into the promotional strategies of consumer brands is profoundly transforming the brand management paradigm. The (conflictive) alliance between brands and platforms poses a new context in which supply strategies tend to be based on the possibilities of tracking and archiving the co-creative participation processes of large numbers of consumers and users. This implies an unprecedented expansion not only of the commercial and communication possibilities of brands, but also of the control that brands and platforms exercise over consumers. In this work we analyze from a sociological perspective the meaning and implications of these new supply strategies. We conclude by proposing a new role for brands within the current platform consumption model.
