AAS Quality Award for an article published in RIS

The article “Technologies and Care in Nursing Homes: Ethical Tensions and Conflicts,” written by Maite Martín Palomo and José María Muñoz Terrón of the University of Almería and published in issue 83 (2) of the International Journal of Sociology (RIS), has been awarded a quality commendation by the Andalusian Sociology Association (AAS).

This article is part of the special issue “Long-Term Care and Precariousness: Working Conditions in Nursing Homes for the Elderly in Spain,” which was edited by Paloma Moré Corral (University of A Coruña) and Sandra López Fernández (University of Castilla-La Mancha), in the second issue of the International Journal of Sociology in 2025.

The award-winning article aims to explore and redefine the contours and complexities of the use of technologies in care, as well as to address the challenges it entails, bringing to light the tensions between care and neglect, and the ethical conflicts (dilemmas) that technocare presents. Through interviews with professionals at group care facilities for the elderly, the article examines the implications of care technologies in residential settings and how care practices have been reshaped by technology in the wake of the pandemic.

Revista Internacional de Sociología (RIS) is a scholarly journal published by the CSIC and edited by the Institute for Advanced Social Studies.
