RIS 2024 Awards Ceremony

On November 22, 2024, the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Sociology (RIS), meeting for this purpose, decided to award the 2024 RIS Prize for the best article published in the journal in 2023, jointly, to:

Víctor Gago Rivas, for his article “The Electoral Effect of the Spanish Radical Left Coalition in the 2016 General Elections: A Quasi-Experimental Analysis with Survey Data,” published in Vol. 81, No. 3

And

Julio Carabaña, for his article “Inequality and Income Mobility: The ‘Great Gatsby Curve’ in 46 Spanish Provinces,” published in Vol. 81, No. 3

The decision was based on criteria of theoretical or empirical rigor, relevance of the results, and methodological originality and innovation, in a multi-stage process. In the first phase, five finalist articles were selected from those published in the RIS in 2023. These articles were then individually scored by all members of the Council in a second phase. Finally, these individual evaluations were discussed and debated, and the award was decided upon, with the first article being recognized for its methodological originality and the second for its theoretical and methodological rigor.

On October 29, 2025, at the IESA Auditorium, the RIS 2024 this award was presented to Víctor Gago Rivas. To mark the occasion, he gave a lecture on “Quasi-experimental analysis with surveys: The case of the Spanish radical left coalition in the 2016 general elections.”
