Decoupling selection: Romanian migrants in Spain and the UK and the disconnect between observable and unobservable traits

Resumen

Este estudio examina la relación entre la selección positiva en características observables y no observables entre migrantes rumanos en España y el Reino Unido. Utilizando datos comparativos y un índice estandarizado de intensidad en la búsqueda de empleo durante el desempleo, demostramos que, aunque los migrantes rumanos en el Reino Unido presentan una fuerte selección positiva en educación, esta no se traduce necesariamente en una mayor resiliencia o proactividad laboral, medida a través de la intensidad en la búsqueda de empleo. Por el contrario, los migrantes en España muestran los niveles más bajos de búsqueda activa, incluso por debajo de los no migrantes en Rumanía. Estos resultados desafían la suposición común en la literatura de que la selección positiva en rasgos observables implica automáticamente selección en dimensiones no observables, y subrayan la importancia de considerar el contexto de destino y factores estructurales en los procesos de integración laboral.
