Intergenerational echoes: the influence of mothers’ roles on their daughters

Resumen

Este estudio explora el impacto intergeneracional de los roles maternos observados durante la infancia en las preferencias laborales de las mujeres en diferentes etapas de la vida, subrayando la importancia de la socialización temprana y el contexto socioeconómico. Utilizando dos submuestras de la Encuesta de Fecundidad (INE, 2018), se analizan las preferencias laborales de las mujeres sin hijos de 25 a 31 años y de las madres de 32 a 49 años. Los hallazgos de los Modelos de Ecuaciones Estructurales (SEM) revelan que, mientras que los roles maternos influyen indirectamente en las preferencias laborales de las mujeres más jóvenes a través del nivel educativo, este efecto se reduce en el grupo de mayor edad, donde es la educación, por sí sola, la que impulsa la orientación laboral. Estos resultados profundizan en la comprensión de las dinámicas laborales femeninas, destacando el papel de la socialización temprana y de las oportunidades estructurales en la configuración de las preferencias laborales, y aportan contexto a los debates sobre igualdad de género y equilibrio entre trabajo y vida personal.
